A UK magician who helped to conjure up one of the most romantic wedding proposals in the world is heading to New York this week to rekindle his personal love affair with America.

As the nation gets set to celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 14, 20-year-old English magician Luca Gallone, 20, is preparing to fly to New York on the trip of lifetime.

He’s returning to the States to say thank you to the American magician who inspired his career as a boy of eight – and perform in the Big Apple.

Thanks to being exposed to some of the best magicians in the world during a trip to Las Vegas in 2004, Luca turned professional at 18,  appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, also at 18, and, more recently, was hired to pull off an ambitious wedding proposal stunt, the video of which went viral appearing online in the USA, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Canada, India, the UK and more.

As part of an advertising campaign for British jeweller, Beaverbrooks, a romantic Englishman enlisted the help of the young illusionist to help him pop the question to his girlfriend in the most magical way possible.

After months of planning, Gavin Pepper, 37, took his unsuspecting partner, Stephanie Cunningham, 26, on a London Christmas shopping trip – where the lovelorn man from Kent, England, was to drop to one knee with a ring in an extra magical moment.

The couple were approached by Luca under the guise of him showing them a card trick and magic-loving Stephanie was only too happy to oblige.

Hoards of shoppers in the middle of London’s Westfield shopping centre were left both astonished and touched by the stunt, as Stephanie opened a folded playing card to see the words ‘will you marry me?’ had magically appeared before her eyes.

Luca said: “It was the most nerve-wracking thing I have ever done. That trick just had to be perfect. Thankfully it worked beautifully. There were tears of emotion and cheers from the onlookers. It was wonderful to be part of it.

“I was so pleased to see the video win fans all over the world including the States. I know Americans love Valentine’s Day and I’m really looking forward to coming back this week. Magic has always been more popular in America than in England, so I knew I had to come back. It’s crazy that it’s taken me 12 years, to get round to it after that first visit.

“The romantic proposal trick was amazing to be a part of, and was one of the most special moments of my career – so it seems fitting that during Valentine’s week I’m restoring my love affair with the States. After a few days in New York – my first time in the city – I will be flying on to Las Vegas to meet magician Mac King – and perform some magic with him. It was seeing his show at the age of eight that truly inspired me to live my dream. I will also be performing in New York during my visit.

“Performing in America is a huge opportunity for me but, honestly, after pulling off the wedding proposal trick, I don’t think it’ll be too daunting at all.”
