NEW YORK, NY, NOVEMBER 2, 2026 — Six decades of waiting came to an end Wednesday evening in Florida. The Milwaukee Brewers won their first World Series title in team history by beating the Tampa Bay Rays four games to one. The win capped off a very successful postseason run for Milwaukee, losing only two games during the whole month of October.
How the Series Unfolded
Milwaukee opened the series with two close, one-run wins at American Family Field, winning Game 1 3-2, and coming back to win Game 2 5-4. In Game 3, the Brewers made a big statement, when they scored eight runs with two outs in an inning and went on to defeat the Rays 10-1. However, the Rays were able to avoid being swept when they won Game 4 in walk-off fashion after it looked like the Brewers would be able to finish off the series.
The Brewers clinched the World Series championship in Game 5 at Tropicana Field with a 4-1 victory. They were led by a strong pitching effort. Rookie Cooper Pratt contributed two hits and two RBIs. The Brewers’ catcher, William Contreras, was named World Series MVP for his overall contribution throughout the five-game series.
A Historic Night for Milwaukee
The championship was the Brewer’s first time playing for a World Series championship in 39 years and their first World Series win in the club’s 57-year history. Milwaukee had the best record in Major League Baseball during the regular season, winning 103 games, and continued to dominate into October. The Brewers did not lose any game played at home in the entire postseason, which was the maximum use of the home field advantage.
The Brewers’ route to a championship included an impressive seven game winning streak in the postseason, and the Brewers were able to come-from-behind to win seven times during their postseason run. This ability to bounce back was a key aspect of Milwaukee’s October as they continually found ways to recover from early deficits against other playoff-bound clubs. Manager Pat Murphy stated that the team’s unity is what allowed them to make this incredible run.
A Series Defined by Pitching
Both teams were dependent upon their pitchers and how well they executed at crucial times during each game instead of relying on power as in previous years. This is a very different type of baseball from the “home run” style of play that we have seen over the past several years. In total, the Brewers and Rays combined to hit only four home runs during all five games. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Brewers hit less than one-third of their runs via home runs, while the Rays also hit less than one-third of their runs via home runs.
Throughout the entire season, both teams had constructed their rosters with a focus on contact hitting, situational base running, and having a deep bullpen, as opposed to having to rely on the “long ball”. According to some analysts, this series demonstrated that despite being in an era of high-power statistics, it is still the ability to pitch effectively and make timely hits that can ultimately determine who wins. Therefore, each organization should be able to continue to develop these strong organizational attributes as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Celebrations Across Wisconsin
The fan base for the Milwaukee Brewers was so excited that they filled up the stadium for watch parties at American Family Field after their team won the championship on the road. Two days later, a parade went through downtown Milwaukee to allow all those fans to celebrate with the team. Many fans bought merchandise from the stadium tent in the days after the win because there had been decades of fans waiting for this moment.
The championship is a long-awaited goal for the franchise, which has had its first-ever major accomplishment. According to team management, the young group of players, including many who were instrumental during the post-season, will allow the Bucks to compete for years to come. At present, however, the emphasis is on the long-awaited arrival of a championship back to the state of Wisconsin.
